I once believed that government meddling in the strategic and tactical decisions of companies was the hallmark of totalitarian regimes. But recent events have made it clear: the United States plays that game too. By my definition, that makes the U.S. a totalitarian state—and for me as an investor, that’s all the evidence I need.
If I followed my own principles, I’d exit the U.S. market immediately. The problem? The rest of the world is either equally totalitarian or incapable of producing companies worth investing in.
So here’s my hard-learned truth: investors shouldn’t cling to ideology. The only rule worth having is the one that maximizes profit. Everything else is just moral theater.
